Bere Mill sits in the river valley: above it on the other side of the B3400 is the Bere Mill Stud on chalk upland. This is a very special landscape, which is managed sensitively and with care to protect the natural environment of chalk stream and water meadows.
The mountain sheep are sweeter,

To carry off the latter.
Hampshire’s chalk uplands are cut through by clear fast-flowing rivers and streams
Traditional water meadows survive at Bere Mill and provide the majority of grazing and hay
A traditional extensive livestock farm with minimal intervention to land or stock
